Our Sunday Night Shelter

Each Sunday night we shelter 25 – 35 individuals who have nowhere else to be warm, safe and accorded some dignity. The Out of the Cold Shelter is part of Blue Door’s Blue Door’s Mosaic Interfaith Out of the Cold providing seasonal emergency housing 7 days/week from October to June for youth, adults, and seniors experiencing homelessness in York Region.

We continue to be a key component of this program to shelter some of God’s most vulnerable. Shelter hours are 5:00pm Sunday to 7:00am Monday morning. Setup to welcome the guests begins at 4:00pm on Sunday with wonderful volunteers from Holy Trinity and Vaughan Community Church. Four volunteers arrive at 5:30am Monday morning to prepare and serve hot breakfast to our guests before they head out for a day of seeking warmth and food. Often guests have already left for the day as they head to work.

Thank you to Hillary Irving Brown and Miriam Irving for your incredible dedication to God’s vulnerable in managing the shelter. Hillary and Miriam are here every Sunday from 4:00pm – 7:30pm and Hillary often comes in Monday morning at 9:00am to double-check that cleanup is complete.
